AIRBUS     Airbus Defence and Space

Astrium SAS (AST-F) is the legal entity answering the present call as PLUGIN coordinator. Since January 1st 2014, Astrium SAS is embedded within the Airbus Defence and Space division, in the Space Systems Business segment. Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group (ex EADS) formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europe’s number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately €14 billion per year. This re-organization will be rolled out gradually during the course of 2014.

Airbus DS has accumulated more than 50 years’ experience in satellite manufacturing covering all domains of satellite systems in all space applications: Earth observation, science, telecommunication and navigation.

In the field of geostationary telecommunication satellites, Airbus DS is in 2014 the first European supplier, and holds the third position on the worldwide market as satellite integrator and prime contractor. Airbus DS has been prime contractor for over seventy GEO communications satellites covering the whole range of applications. The Eurostar E3000 platform, at stake in this project, is at the forefront of innovation and our best-selling telecommunication bus (cf. section 6.3 for more detailed information on the Eurostar satellites).
